The SAM Outstanding Student Award exists to recognize the hard work, growth and development of Collegiate Members over the course of the year.
Each campus chapter Advisor may nominate a maximum of three qualified students for this award. Eligible chapters must have a minimum of 5 paid members to be eligible to nominate Collegiate Members for this award. Nominations should be made online and received by SAM National no later than the submission deadline.
An advisor wishing to nominate a student will notify the student of their nomination and together they will submit a properly formatted application for the award. Each nominated student is required to submit the following:
(1) A personal narrative of no more than 500 words highlighting the value of participating in SAM.
(2) A vita of achievements while a member of the College Chapter. This vita will include:
Academic achievements – Highlighting any business or management related course success.
Extracurricular achievements – Highlighting any recognition from the college or surrounding community that speaks to the development of the Collegiate Member outside of SAM.
Service to the Society – Highlighting the participation and service to the Society for Advancement of Management at the National, Regional, and/or Chapter level.
Professional Resume – Highlighting work and professional service and achievement.
Any supporting documentation of achievements (newspaper items, published management articles, etc.) should be included within this section of your application.
(3) A letter of recommendation from the Chapter Advisor.
To ensure proper formatting of documents and images, all nomination components (Personal narrative, vita of achievements, letter of recommendation) must be saved in PDF format and uploaded with the nomination application.
Collegiate members are not required to be registered for the SAM International Business Conference to receive recognition as a Outstanding Student Award Recipient. Arrangements for a suitable presentation of the award locally may be available upon request.
