INTERNATIONAL COLLEGIATE
BUSINESS SKILLS CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS ARCHIVE

Since 1981, the Society for Advancement of Management has hosted international collegiate business competitions for business school programs, inviting teams from around the world to compete. Over the decades, these experiences have brought together students, faculty, and practitioners in a shared commitment to applied learning, professional development, and meaningful competition. We are pleased to share with you an archive of our winners, reflecting both the legacy of excellence within SAM and the continued growth of our competitive programs.

Prior to 2018, the Collegiate Case Competition stood as the cornerstone of SAM’s student competition offerings. It provided a rigorous and immersive opportunity for students to analyze complex business challenges and present actionable solutions, serving as the primary competitive outlet for members of the Society.

In 2018, SAM expanded its vision by introducing the Extemporaneous Speech Competition, broadening the scope of student engagement to include communication, critical thinking, and the ability to respond to real-world business topics in real time. This marked the beginning of a new era of competition within the organization.

Building on this momentum, 2019 saw the launch of the first International Collegiate Business Skills Championships, bringing together the Business Knowledge Bowl, Extemporaneous Speech, and the Collegiate Case Competition under a unified and dynamic competitive framework. This expansion created a more comprehensive platform for students to demonstrate a wider range of business skills in a structured and competitive environment. Following the success of these new initiatives, SAM continued to innovate. In 2020, the Society introduced both the Written Case Competition and the Business Pitch Competition, further diversifying opportunities for students to showcase their analytical abilities, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking.

As the competitions evolved, so did the focus on community and collaboration. In 2024, the final Business Pitch Competition was held, making way for a new rotating event designed to complement the International Collegiate Business Skills Championships. This experience emphasizes collegial networking, creativity, and shared engagement, providing a space for all competitors to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the spirit of competition beyond traditional formats. Together, these milestones reflect SAM’s ongoing commitment to adapting and expanding its competitive offerings, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills, experiences, and connections needed to succeed in an ever-changing business landscape.

Before 2018, the Society for Advancement of Management centered its student competition experience around a single, flagship event: the Collegiate Case Competition. This competition served as the primary opportunity for students to engage with real-world business challenges, applying their knowledge, analytical thinking, and presentation skills in a competitive, high-impact environment.

While the Collegiate Case Competition provided a meaningful and rigorous experience, it also represented the full extent of competitive opportunities available to student members at the time. As the needs of students and business programs continued to evolve, so did the vision for how SAM could better support the development of future management professionals.

This moment in our history reflects a strong foundation built on experiential learning and practical application. It also set the stage for the expansion of a more diverse and dynamic competition portfolio, designed to meet students where they are and challenge them in new and innovative ways.
