Dr. Avinandan Mukherjee is the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia Souther. In this capacity he oversees all academic functions across nine colleges and two schools, as well as student affairs, research initiatives, and enrollment management. His vision for academic excellence, research advancement and student success aligns closely with Georgia Southern’s mission to graduate career-ready students, drive regional economic development and elevate public-impact research.
With more than sixteen years in senior academic leadership, Mukherjee most recently served as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Marshall University, after a year as interim provost. From 2017 to 2021 he was Dean of the AACSB-accredited Lewis College of Business at Marshall, where he led a comprehensive strategic transformation in collaboration with faculty and external partners. Prior to Marshall, he was Dean of the College of Business at Clayton State University and Chair of the Marketing Department at Montclair State University, where he helped launch an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Environmental Management.
A tenured Professor of Marketing, Mukherjee brings a global perspective having taught full-time or as visiting faculty in nine countries. His scholarship includes more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in top journals and a coauthored book, An Integrated Approach to Environmental Management. His work has been cited over 7,000 times, and he serves as Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing. He has led executive education programs and consulted across North America, Europe and Asia.
Dr. Mukherjee has held leadership roles with the Society for Advancement of Management (including president), the Midwest Business Administration Association and the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. He has served on committees with the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, the NCAA and the University System of Georgia.
He earned his Ph.D. in Marketing from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, with doctoral research affiliated through the MIT Sloan International Motor Vehicle Program. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, a graduate certificate in Higher Education Administration from Harvard University and certificates from the Millennium Leadership Initiative and the AGB Institute for Leadership and Governance in Higher Education.
