TRACK, TOPICS, & SUBMISSION TYPES

EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH & MEASUREMENT TRACK

Track Topics

  • Assessment Design and Validation
  • Learning Analytics and Data-Driven Decision Making
  • Psychometrics and Item Response Theory
  • Formative vs. Summative Assessment Practices
  • Technology-Enhanced Assessment Tools
  • Standardized Testing and Accountability
  • Equity and Fairness in Educational Assessment
  • Competency-Based Assessment Models
  • Classroom-Based Assessment Strategies
  • International Comparisons in Student Achievement
  • Assessment in Online and Hybrid Learning Environments

Educational Research and Measurement sits at the core of how learning is understood, improved, and applied. At the 2026 SAM International Business Conference, scholars and practitioners will come together to explore assessment and evaluation as both science and practice. This track invites presentations that advance the study of assessment design, validation, and psychometrics, as well as those that use data to inform educational policy and instructional improvement. Whether you specialize in item response theory, test development, or data-driven decision making, your research has a place in this conversation.

Our sessions will highlight emerging innovations that shape how learning is measured and interpreted. Presenters will have opportunities to share insights on technology-enhanced assessment tools, formative and summative assessment strategies, and the balance between standardization and creativity in learning evaluation. The discussion will also include classroom-based approaches, accountability frameworks, and the practical realities of implementing assessment models that drive genuine learning outcomes across diverse educational contexts.

Equity and innovation will be central themes throughout the day. Topics such as fairness in testing, competency-based assessment, and international comparisons in student achievement invite a global perspective on what it means to measure learning responsibly. As education systems evolve toward hybrid and online models, this track provides a space to examine how digital tools can create more inclusive and authentic assessments. We encourage NERA members and other educational researchers to submit proposals, share their expertise, and join us in shaping the next generation of educational measurement.

SUBMISSION TYPES

The Society for Advancement of Management International Business Conference (SAM-IBC) welcomes a diverse range of research methods and is open to papers, presentations, posters, workshops, symposiums, and panels that rely on statistical inference, qualitative data, verbal theory, computational models, mathematical models, literature review, and case studies. SAM-IBC invites you to submit any of the following types of your academic work to the conference:

Presentations in this submission type will focus on one of the following three areas of scholarship:

Basic or discovery scholarship that generates and communicates new knowledge and understanding and/or development of new methods. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the theory, knowledge, and/or practice of business.

Applied or integration/application scholarship that synthesizes new understandings or interpretations of knowledge or technology; develops new technologies, processes, tools, or uses; and/or refines, develops, or advances new methods based on existing knowledge. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the practice of business.

Teaching and learning scholarship that develops and advances new understandings, insights, and teaching content and methods that impact learning behavior. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the teaching of business (adopted from the AACSB 2013 Accreditation Standards).

This submission type is for research presentations of student work both graduate and undergraduate that focus on one of the following three areas of scholarship:

Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the teaching of business (in accordance with the AACSB 2020 Accreditation Standards).

* Joint Faculty and Student research should be directed to the Faculty/Student Research track.

This submission type is for presentations that are the joint product of Faculty and Student research. The majority or all of the presentation will be done by the student. Research in this track will focus on the same scholarship areas as in the Scholarly Research track.

Two options are available for practitioners. The first option in this submission type is for presentations that provide a real-world perspective on management issues within organizations; these presentations seek to provide members of SAM a view of these management issues from the practitioner perspective. The second option in this submission type is for the presentation of original case studies that focus on contemporary, real-world management issues and provide recommendations for management practice and/or education.

This submission type is for those who would like to present a workshop in either panel or presentation format. These sessions will relate to the Conference theme, and enhance positive Conference impact and meaningful take-aways for Conference attendees. When possible, workshops and panels are provided exclusive programming time separate from other presentations and are encouraged to envision participation from various disciplines and organizations.

SUBMISSION PROCESS
