This award recognizes SAM Chapters who perform civic-focused initiatives that promote community and local service through projects, activities, and events. Chapters who effect positive change in their community, through acts of service, fundraising, mentoring, teaching, volunteerism, and leading or creating social initiatives are pillars of the community and their efforts tie back to SAM’s deep rooted historical values.

SAM will recognize chapters for outstanding achievements through outreach and impact within the communities they serve.

Nominated chapters should have a strong documented record of volunteerism and service to the community. The Chapter’s service or actions must be directly impacting a person, cause, group or population in the geographic area of the chapter. Chapters of any size are eligible.

A winning Chapter, should serve as a role model for compassion and service to another or others, and be striving to make their community a better place. Service can be a one-time event, ongoing service, or another act of kindness.

This Award will go to the outstanding Chapter who:

  • Has exemplified and provides detailed examples of how they performed a service to the community,
  • Provides an outline of the service project, outcomes, and reports of the success of the endeavor,
  • Demonstrates a culture of engagement with the community through service to the community and in some cases, service from the community to the chapter,
  • Shares how the chapter identifies a challenge or problem within the community and creates a program of work to address that need through service.

In a summary of no more than 750 words, please identify the chapter and the team of leaders who facilitated the service to the community. Please include the chapter’s key achievements in service projects, activities, and events.

In no more than 1500 words, please tell our awards committee why the nominee should be named the winner of the Chapter Community Impact Award. Nominations are primarily evaluated by the criteria listed below. In an effort to maximize the chances of a successful nomination, please make sure to tailor your response to connect to as many of the identified criteria as possible. Our committee understands that no two chapters are the same and a successful nomination will not necessarily contain all of the criteria identified.

Provide examples of how the chapter has made an impact on their community through their initiatives and services and what legacy those efforts may make on the future. • Detail any examples where the chapter has led the charge in creating change in their community. • Describe the shared values the chapter has adopted in making decisions on initiatives that make a positive impact. • Share how the chapter has integrated a new concept, technology or practice that improved the organization’s ability to perform service to the community. • Define any chapter programs that were developed to address sustainability in service to the community. • Describe one creative way the chapter has provided community service in a way that was not traditionally the way service to the community would have been done in the past. Be specific, and use an example from within the past year. • Describe the chapter’s leadership philosophy on service. • Describe challenges experienced by the chapter in how it selects service projects and initiatives and how the leadership team overcame those challenges. • Share what hurdles have been overcome in creating a culture of service to the community. • Each chapter changes their makeup and membership over time, how does the chapter recruit and motivate members in order to continue to be of service to the community, long term. • Provide a specific example of how the chapter is a role model for others. • Briefly highlight the chapter’s plan for continued service to the community over the next two to three years. • Identify how the chapter looks for partners and collaborators to perform service to the community. • Share a story of how the organization has made a positive impact on the community through service, and how that service makes meaningful change in the lives of those impacted.
