SAM INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CONFERENCE 2026

ADVANCING MANAGEMENT:
MANAGING HEALTHY ORGANIZATIONS

MARCH 16 - 21, 2026

The Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) invites you to participate in its 2026 International Business Conference (IBC) on the New England Institute of Technology Campus in East Greenwich, RI. SAM is the world’s oldest professional management association, partner of the peer-reviewed SAM Advanced Management Journal published by Emerald Publishing, and the home of the International Business Skills Championship that occurs during the annual Conference. SAM has long been committed to advancing management research, practice, and education. Our 2026 IBC, the 81st in SAM’s history, continues this tradition by bringing together academicians, researchers, industry experts, practitioners, and students to share insights, exchange ideas, and foster new collaborations.

EARLY BIRD SUBMISSION DEADLINE

DECEMBER 1, 2025

In today’s dynamic global economy, organizations face growing complexity in balancing profitability, sustainability, and the well-being of their people. Achieving success now requires a holistic approach, one in which healthy organizations integrate robust financial returns with ethical practices, long-term viability, and a nurturing workplace culture. Such a perspective builds upon Frederick Taylor’s foundational management insights, famously proclaiming, “In the past man has been first; in the future the system must be first”, while also recognizing that effective systems depend on supportive human environments.

Modern organizations cannot rely on a singular focus on profit, nor can they neglect it. Healthy organizations strive to meet financial targets and expand market share but do so in ways that respect core values, sustain their business model, and foster resilience. By pairing systematic management principles with genuine concern for employee and stakeholder well-being, leaders can create conditions where innovation thrives, operational efficiency improves, and people remain motivated to excel.

Sustainability is another key dimension of a healthy organization. It involves making strategic decisions that account for environmental and social impacts, while preserving resources for future generations. In practice, this might mean designing processes that minimize waste, establishing ethical supply chains, or developing robust community partnerships. Through such commitments, organizations not only protect their reputations but also gain a competitive edge by appealing to increasingly conscientious consumers and investors.

At the same time, workplace well-being must be prioritized alongside financial success. Healthy organizations recognize that high turnover, burnout, and a toxic culture undermine productivity and profitability. By investing in mental health support, flexible work arrangements, and inclusive leadership practices, businesses can strengthen loyalty, reduce operational disruptions, and enhance overall performance.

However, none of these efforts can succeed without clear, evidence-based strategies. Rigorous data collection, ongoing analysis, and continuous improvement are at the heart of ensuring that well-being programs, sustainability initiatives, and profit goals remain aligned. Here, Taylor’s legacy endures: managers must rely on systematic methods to balance human needs and organizational objectives effectively.

SAM invites academicians, practitioners, and students to submit papers, workshops, and symposium that illuminate these intertwined objectives, profitability, sustainability, and well-being—and offer pathways for forging truly healthy organizations. Join us at the 81st annual IBC to explore how a thoughtfully designed system, powered by motivated individuals, can drive both financial success and a better future for all.

The Society for Advancement of Management International Business Conference (SAM-IBC) welcomes a diverse range of research methods and is open to papers, presentations, posters, workshops, symposiums, and panels that rely on statistical inference, qualitative data, verbal theory, computational models, mathematical models, literature review, and case studies. SAM-IBC invites you to submit any of the following types of your academic work to the conference:

Type 1: Scholarly Research

Presentations in this submission type will focus on one of the following three areas of scholarship:

Basic or discovery scholarship that generates and communicates new knowledge and understanding and/or development of new methods. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the theory, knowledge, and/or practice of business.

Applied or integration/application scholarship that synthesizes new understandings or interpretations of knowledge or technology; develops new technologies, processes, tools, or uses; and/or refines, develops, or advances new methods based on existing knowledge. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the practice of business.

Teaching and learning scholarship that develops and advances new understandings, insights, and teaching content and methods that impact learning behavior. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the teaching of business (adopted from the AACSB 2013 Accreditation Standards).

Type 2: Student Research

This submission type is for research presentations of student work both graduate and undergraduate that focus on one of the following three areas of scholarship:

Basic or discovery scholarship that generates and communicates new knowledge and understanding and/or development of new methods. Intellectual contributions in this category are normally intended to impact the theory, knowledge, and/or practice of business.

Applied or Integration/application scholarship that synthesizes new understandings or interpretations of knowledge or technology; develops new technologies, processes, tools, or uses; and/or refines, develops, or advances new methods based on existing knowledge. * Joint Faculty and Student research should be directed to the Faculty/Student Research track.

Type 3: Faculty/Student Research

This submission type is for presentations that are the joint product of Faculty and Student research. The majority or all of the presentation will be done by the student. Research in this track will focus on the same scholarship areas as in the Scholarly Research track.

Type 4: Practitioner Research and Presentations

Two options are available for practitioners. The first option in this submission type is for presentations that provide a real-world perspective on management issues within organizations; these presentations seek to provide members of SAM a view of these management issues from the practitioner perspective. The second option in this submission type is for the presentation of original case studies that focus on contemporary, real-world management issues and provide recommendations for management practice and/or education.

Type 5: Symposium, Workshop, and Panels

This submission type is for those who would like to present a workshop in either panel or presentation format. These sessions will relate to the Conference theme, and enhance positive Conference impact and meaningful take-aways for Conference attendees. When possible, workshops and panels are provided exclusive programming time separate from other presentations and are encouraged to envision participation from various disciplines and organizations.
