Henry "Hank" Johnson

Board Member

Hank Johnson is an accomplished Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Business Management department at the New England Institute of Technology. Alongside his academic role, he holds prominent positions in various organizations, including serving as International Vice-President for the Society for Advancement of Management, Board Chair of Society of Advancement Rhode Island Chapter and as the treasurer of Shadowcasting Community Arts. In addition, he actively contributes to the boards of the Rhode Island Public Health Association, Rhode Island Career Development Association, and Operation: LifeLines.

Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Hank was honored with the prestigious Phil Carrol Advancement of Management Award in Business Education in 2019. Additionally, he has been the New England Institute of Technology’s Society for Advancement of Management faculty advisor from 2016 to 2023 and has received consecutive accolades as the national outstanding faculty advisor.

In the realm of research, Hank has presented his work at renowned conferences such as the American Public Health Association Conference, Northeastern Educational Research Conference, The Teaching Professor Conference, and the Society for Advancement of Management International Business Conference. His research specialties encompass public health, education, and management.

Hank has also actively contributed to various professional associations. He previously served as the chair of the Graduate Student Issues Committee of the Northeastern Educational Research Association (NERA) and was appointed as the cochair of the 2021 NERA Conference. Furthermore, he served on NERA’s Board of Directors from 2021-2023.

Hank holds a Master of Business Administration and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from Johnson & Wales University.

Outside of academia, as he has excelled as a consultant for multiple entrepreneurial startups, guiding them towards financial profitability, rapid expansion, and increased market valuation. His valuable insights have covered essential areas such as organizational development, succession planning, human resources, and employee relations.

Prior to his current role, Hank served as the Executive Director of Education in Action, a non-profit organization located in Providence, Rhode Island. The organization’s mission was to provide hands-on learning opportunities to inspire and educate youth, enabling them to achieve real-world success. During his tenure, he established valuable community partnerships with institutions such as The Providence Transition Academy and The Providence Autism School to Tomorrow Academy. Hank also coordinated city-wide after-school programs in Cranston, Central Falls, Pawtucket, and West Warwick, contributing to the overall enrichment of the community.

Hank has dedicated a significant portion of his career to public health, particularly assisting individuals living in poverty and facing addiction and mental health challenges. As a Life Skills Instructor at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, he played a pivotal role in teaching unemployed and low-income residents about career readiness, and self-advocacy. His efforts have led hundreds of his clients to successful careers.

With his extensive experience, impressive accomplishments, and unwavering commitment to education, public health, and management, Hank Johnson continues to be a respected figure in academia and beyond.
